Delegate Bob Hull

Bob Hull...a record of working for you

Fighting to bring transportation dollars back to Northern Virginia
As a lifelong Northern Virginian, Delegate Bob Hull understands that transportation issues affect us daily in the 38th Delegate District. That’s why Delegate Hull has fought to secure millions of dollars in bonds to help build new roads and rail projects in order to relieve traffic congestion in Northern Virginia. He has actively supported a new Potomac River bridge and the construction of a "techway" that would link the Dulles area with the I-270 corridor in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Working for Northern Virginia jobs and a more secure economy
Delegate Bob Hull understands that our country is in an economic crunch and as our state delegate he has fought to protect our interests and reduce our tax loads at work and at home. Delegate Hull has spoken out against the Republicans' rejection of $125 million in federal funding to ease the state’s burden and expand benefits to those unemployed. Delegate Hull has fought to simplify and reform the tax code to provide more tax relief to lower and moderate income families at both the state and local levels.

In a time where many Virginias fear mortgage foreclosures, Delegate Hull co-sponsored legislation to require mortgage brokers to be licensed in Virginia and added to a nationwide database. This gives homeowners security in knowing their broker is reliable.

Caring for the health of our children, seniors and those in need
Delegate Bob Hull knows that preventive health care and prescription drug coverage is a right that each Virginian deserves. That is why he has consistently fought for these services to be made available to all Virginians no matter their age or financial status. Delegate Hull voted to create the Virginia Medical Security Plan, which now, with the help of federal money, provides health care coverage to over half a million of Virginia’s low-income children and pregnant mothers. Delegate Hull voted for prescription drug relief so that seniors will not have to choose between medication and other necessities, like food. He also voted to establish the Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund to help protect underserved and uninsured Virginia women.

Providing and funding world-class public education for Fairfax County
Delegate Bob Hull has fought tirelessly to provide more funds for our schools. He voted to devote money from the state lottery solely to school funding. Delegate Hull has opposed all school voucher schemes which would have drained millions of dollars from our public schools, as well as a plan to redistribute education dollars in a way that didn't give Fairfax County its fair share of funding.

Fighting for a better, safer community
Delegate Bob Hull has spent his career working to make Fairfax County and Northern Virginia a safer and better place to live and work. He fought to pass legislation that requires jail time for those twice convicted of housing, health or safety violations, which makes our neighborhoods cleaner and safer. Delegate Hull wrote and led the passage of a law that triples the penalty for carjacking, helping to bring the crime on our streets down dramatically.

Preserving the environment for our children and grandchildren
Delegate Bob Hull has fought to make sure that future generations can enjoy a clean and healthy Virginia. In 2008, Delegate Hull was named a Legislative Hero by the League of Conservation Voters for his 100 percent pro-environment voting record. Delegate Hull led the fight to decrease the amount of out-of-state garbage dumping in Virginia thus keeping excess garbage trucks from traveling our Virginia roads and other states’ trash from filling up our landfills. As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Delegate Hull has also voted consistently to protect the Bay including voting for the Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Waters Clean-up and Oversight Act, which provides a clean-up plan for one of Virginia’s most prized wonders.

A history of progressive leadership
Delegate Bob Hull has consistently been an advocate for women’s rights. Having a career 100 percent score from NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia, Delegate Hull has never once voted to restrict a woman’s right to choose. He has been a strong leader in making sure that women’s health issues are a priority in the General Assembly and worked to establish the Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Fund protecting women against serious health risks.

Delegate Hull has been a leader in Virginia for gun control and safety. Delegate Hull is proud to receive an endorsement from the Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence. Delegate Hull has sponsored legislation that would prohibit firearms in recreation centers where our children play.

Having been endorsed by the Virginia Partisans, Delegate Hull has been a leader in fighting for gay rights. He has co-sponsored numerous bills that would make it illegal for employers to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.

Advocating for our diverse communities
Delegate Bob Hull has worked with the Vietnamese Community to pass a law that made the former Republic of Vietnam’s flag the Vietnamese American Heritage Flag. He has fought to have this flag be the official Vietnamese flag used at all government and school functions across the Commonwealth. In 2009, Delegate Hull sponsored and passed a bill to designate May 11th of each year as Vietnamese Human Rights Day to support efforts by those working for freedom and human rights for the people of Vietnam.

Delegate Hull sponsored a bill to create a Virginia-Israel Partnership Council to advise the Governor on ways to improve economic and cultural links between the Commonwealth and the State of Israel, with a focus on the areas of commerce and trade, arts and education, and general government. He has also visited the state of Israel twice as a representative of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
